In Antique Drum, Miles Player, a young officer in the Prince Regent’s Light Infantry, narrates his experiences of growing up in the British Army in the 1950s, which in many ways were closer to the 1930s than the 1960s and were the final days of the British Empire. Miles narrates his experience of fighting in Kenya, the Suez Crisis and a small war in the Aden Protectorate.
As a story Antique Drum stands alone and is complete in itself. It is the last in the triology A Military Education. The first book, On Fire – about the Koream War – is out of print but can be bought on Kindle. The second book Silken Dalliance – about Cold War frontiersmen in West Germany can be purchased from this website.
